Tia Cavender, Kennel Attendant

Tia joined the Heart of Ankeny team in April of 2017. She is originally from Ames, IA and is currently a first year vet student at Iowa State University where she is studying small animal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, scuba diving, and is the proud owner of a cardigan welsh corgi, Suko! 


Josh Wolff, Kennel Attendant

Josh joined the Heart of Ankeny Team in the fall of 2016. He is originally from Maplewood, Minnesota and is currently a junior at Iowa State University studying Animal Science. He loves doing anything outdoors especially playing baseball and hockey. He has a goldendoodle at home named Chloe.


Gabrielle Tavegia, Kennel Attendant

Gabrielle joined the Heart of Ankeny team in October of 2017. She originally grew up in Des Moines and now lives in Ames with her two dogs Sammy and Zoey, and her cockatiel Loco. She is currently attending ISU and majoring in Animal Science, with hopes to progress to their Veterinary School of Medicine. In her free time she enjoys volunteering at AHeinz57 Pet Rescue, and photography!


Shannon Pomar, Kennel Attendant 

Shannon joined the Heart of Ankeny Team in November 2017. She is originally from Los Angeles, California about 10 mins from Hollywood. She moved to Ames 4 and a half years ago to attend Iowa State University (where her brother also attended), and study Animal Science. She will be graduating in May and plans on working for a year to gain some experience. She then plans to apply to ISU's Veterinary school, and also attend grad school for animal behavior/ research. She has two dogs, her 2.5 year old Dachshund/Blue Heeler/Chihuahua mix, Izzy, and 1 year old Pitbull/American Bulldog/Cane Corso mix. She also hopes to be adding a Great Dane to the family next year! In her free time she likes to be outside. She loves the hot weather so when summer comes around, she always outside, either at the dog park or by the pool sitting in the sun!
