Our Veterinarians

Stacey Munger, DVM/Practice Owner

Dr. Stacey Munger is a veterinarian and the owner of Heart of Ankeny Animal Hospital.  She graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.

After graduation she began her career in a small animal practice in Richmond Hill, Georgia, a small suburb of Savannah.  It was a “small town vet” atmosphere and she learned a lot. There were no emergency clinics in our area so she offered after hours care. She learned a lot from the seasoned vets on staff and was blessed that they were willing to be patient mentors to the “new grad”!  Being the newest veterinarian on staff, she got the privilege of being on call. A lot. She spent many nights giving advice and seeing clients at midnight! She gained a lot of confidence and realized her passion for surgery while in Georgia.

After enjoying two years in the warm southern climate she realized that Georgia was just too far away from home and took a job in Woodbury, MN with Banfield Pet Hospital.  The idea of corporate medicine was off-turning in the beginning.  She envisioned everything being about money instead of good quality medicine and personal relationships.  She realized over time that although corporations can affect some of the options that she had, they could not change the type of veterinarian that she wanted to be. She was very impressed with the high quality care and standards they were held to and still uses a lot of the same protocols at our hospital today. Her practice was extremely busy and employed 5 doctors.  She started as an associate in 2008 and worked herself up the ranks to Chief of Staff.  While working in Minnesota she also met my husband Bo. They were married in 2010 and welcomed daughters Sarah, Emma, and Lucy.

Stacey Munger, DVM/Practice Owner and Family

Although she enjoyed her job in Minnesota and the great team she had surrounding her, she had always held onto the dream of opening her own practice.  She enjoyed the fast pace of corporate veterinary medicine but sometimes resented the fact that she didn’t have more one on one time with clients or the time to make sure everyone received that personal touch.  She decided to go out on her own and knew the only place to do it was in central Iowa where she was born and raised. After careful consideration Ankeny seemed like a great fit!  She is so excited to watch the practice grow!

In her free time Dr. Munger likes to spend as much time as she can with her girls and family.  She enjoys coaching her daughters in softball and watching all of their activities. They live in  Ankeny's Prairie Trail neighborhood and are enjoying meeting new friends and neighbors.  Bo has taken over as Practice Manager at Heart of Ankeny which has been a great change.  Their oldest daughter, Sarah enjoys riding horses, softball, basketball, volleyball, and reading. Emma enjoys gymnastics, softball, basketball, and volleyball.  And little Lucy has started softball this year as well!  She hopes they all grow up to share hers passion for animals, but looks forward to seeing and supporting them wherever their interests may lead them.  She hopes that one day, like her, they will be lucky enough to turn their passion into a career and truly LOVE what they do!

Heather Quinn, Associate DVM

Heather Quinn, Associate DVM and FamilyDr. Quinn originally joined the Heart of Ankeny Team in February of 2016 as a veterinary technician. We then took her on as our Associate Veterinarian in the summer of 2018. She is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and did her undergraduate at the University of Minnesota. In 2014 she moved to Ames and began her journey at Iowa State University's School of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated with the class of 2018. Since starting at our hospital as a DVM, Dr. Quinn has enjoyed meeting new faces and forming new relationships with our clients and their pets. She strives to do as much as possible for all four-legged friends, and uses every day to learn as much as possible. She also enjoys learning the ropes of surgery and emergency medicine, and teaching her coworkers new things.

Outside of work, Dr. Quinn loves to travel and spend time outdoors camping, playing tennis, soccer, and occasionally golf. Some weekends she will also enjoy spending time at her parent's lake house in Minnesota. Dr. Quinn is a big fan of the Minnesota Golden Gophers and enjoys cheering them on with her husband, Justin, and working on projects around the house in Ankeny that they also share with their two Labrador retrievers Leidner and Wally.
